my little sticky fingered assistants

Yes our children are a reflection of us, but I promise you there are exceptions!! Like today for example. My unassuming 2 year old found a furry, fuzzy, cozy plush doggie at a children's store I was soliciting. I grabbed it to set it back yet while distracted by my 4 year olds' incessant need to touch EVERYTHING, my 2 year old reclaimed her prize. I said my ado's to the store owners and confidently walked out the door thinking to myself, "I sure hope I made a good first impression!". A generous gallop away, I hear someone call me from behind. Could that be the store owner, wishing to find out more details of my products? Nope! "Excuse me, is that your daughters stuffed animal?", asked the store owner as she ran after us. (Bubble quickly bursting) Sure enough, snuggled tightly in my 2 year olds grasp, the store's furry, fuzzy, cozy plush doggie!! Pure, unabashed humiliation quickly over took me. Of course I excessively apologized, yet tried to remain cool and collected. But the truth is I could have died!! So.... nice first impression, huh? I wonder if that great first encounter will ever turn into a client after that. I hope that I can write a post in the future saying they did. Cautious optimism may be a drastic overstatement. Lesson learned: Leave the mini sticky fingers with their Nana on work days.

Better quality samples coming my way

Thank you black friday and Joann's Doorbusters! I finally purchased a much needed serger/interlocker machine!! Neat and clean seams here I come. 1300 stitches a minute AND recommended by Martha Stewart, what more could a girl ask for? The real question is, how in the world do I work this thing?
Once I've figured out how to use this lovely little device, I'm sure to have more professional samples and sewing projects. I'm very excited, why I could sew a piece without lining it and it would be ok! The possibilities are endless. I better crack that box open and take a look at the machine that promises to bring me a tidy seamed sewing future.

Getting things all purdy around here

Wow! What a difference a beautiful new template can make. I even unintentionally "ahhhhed" when it was complete.

what makes a good website? www.lapetitecouture.com

Have you visited our website? If so, thank you!! I am patiently waiting for my new and improved website. Until then, this one will do. www.lapetitecouture.com. Simple, fast, easy to use websites are what I prefer. I am always making small adjustments to mine in order to make it more user friendly. Unfortunately the real changes I would like to make are beyond the abilities of this little baby clothing designer that could (not design that kind of website). My dream website would have a shopping cart for one! As well as a beautifully designed home page. I don't think it is too much to hope for. But until then, what I have will do. And until the shopping cart is a go, just email me. I take orders that way. I appreciate all support of our little website. So thank you very much! Also a quick shout out to our very first blog follower! Thank you!!!! You are the greatest!

Oh Dear!

Why are these blogs so difficult?  Why are my titles in a foreign language?

Baby Dress Model

My daughter loves to model my samples.  I hope this lasts.  I put the dress on her and she spins and spins.  The only problem, she doesn't want to give it back!  Oh well, it provides for a break from all the sewing.

How to make unique children's clothing

I've always loved fabric.  Yet I always stayed in the home fabric isles, completely uninterested in clothing fabric.  Until one day...I piled my cart full of bolts of fabric-yes, clothing fabric.  It was so much fun sewing little baby clothes.  For one thing, they are small which makes them very easy to cut out.  I loved playing with the different options, pining the fabric, buttons or trims in different ways to create different looks.  Sometimes I pin it, photograph it and look at the options for days before deciding what the winning look will be.  I always think in the back of my mind, "should I have done that the other way?"  I put my mind at ease knowing that look can be used next season.  I love to create cute, unique baby, toddler and girls dresses.  The possibilities are endless.
Now I just need to learn to sew faster to get all these designs out of my mind and into the adorable little dresses they are destined to be!
